It's really only fitting that at age four he stop calling you Mama. Or even Mommy. Or Mom. Nope, not "Mother," either.
Demon Baby has a new name for me, that he insists on using.
Apparently, I am Sugarcheeks.
Yeah.
Add to this, when he CALLS me that, he pats my head or my cheek like some paternal Southen millionaire speaking to his wife. Did I add I am from NY, live in Virginia, and he drawls it like Stonewall Jackson? I need to get him "tawlking" more New York.
Signing off, this is Sugarcheeks

Gotta love it!
Sugarcheeks isn't so bad, when you consider all the alternatives that could be coming out of his mouth. ;)
Hi Pita-Woman:
I did, indeed, consider that.
What amuses me no end is it's completely original. There is not a soul in his life who could have used that expression. Any of the nicknames of me that he might have heard have been innocuous. His father calls me "E," for example. And his Oldest Sister calls me "O."

OMG! Is there any way to record this?
Melanie:
I'll try to have Baby Girl record him. He has a raspy voice, so he's hysterical. The reason I don't record him more and post on You Tube is he's naked all the time, so I can't really post THAT.
E
P.S. Baby Girl, the budding Spielberg, figured out how to film so that she appears with her TWIN in her films, talking to each other. (I.e.--she doesn't have a twin . . . it's all camerawork). She's AMAZING!!!
Melanie:
And as a P.S. . . . Baby Girl is 11. I can't imagine her films at 16 or 18 or 21.
I am currently reading Look Me In The Eye by John Elder Robison, and he mentions how he never calls people close to him by their real names. For example he called his little brother Varmint and his mother Slave. I think Sugarcheeks is much cuter than Slave.
Cheryl:
Yes, I do much prefer Sugarcheeks, I suppose. :-)

Ohhh..haha. That so made me laugh!! ;) Wow. Hang in there sugarcheeks. (im sorry i had to!) lol. I dont know what i would do with a little boy like that!!!
Well, Sugarcheeks is a lot better than other things that he could call you (and maybe will when he's a teenager!)
nessa:
Pretty much every time he says it, I laugh out loud, so that just reinforces it. ;-)
Frankly, he's so utterly different from my other kids. He has their vocabulary at this age . . . but he's certainly more . . . colorful.
E
FF:
Yeah. I've been through one adolescence with his sister and embarking on a second one with my Oldest Son (who is SO mellow that . . . knock wood) . . . I know it's not easy and for now will take Sugarcheeks.
E
Erica, I continue to be amazed by your children! That's so cool. Has she taught herself all the video stuff?
Melanie:
Yup. She even has plans to construct her own green screen for special effects. She teachers herself all of it.
When I get a little extra money, I am going to comb craisglist for a decent video camera for her. Right now she makes do with a real junk one . . . and the passion isn't dying out. She's definitely not "outgrowing" this obsession.
E
bwahahahahahaha. Demon baby sounds like me, with the weird nicknames. Throughout our marriage Tom has been: baby carrot (no, it's not anything dirty), Tomlet, Smushy, and Baby Spaghetti head.
Zoe:
I do the weird nickname thing too. My Oldest Daughter I NEVER call by her real name (which is a beautiful name) . . . I call her Beanie. And my younger daughter I call B-boo. About the only one I don't nickname is my oldest son, for some reason. Though now that he is a teenager, I am sure he is happy about that!!
