Santa . . .

So Demon Baby had a lovely Christmas. He got an electronic guitar, Legos, a Nintendo DS, Ninja pants (black fleece pants from Old Navy, God bless them they make a pant he will wear at times), a large coloring book, and assorted other presents. Oh, and a lifelike baby bear. It makes noise. You feed it a bottle. It moves.

"WHAT?!" he asked when he opened it.

"It's a baby bear that moves," said I, thinking he wasn't quite sure.

"Santa is out of his mind. He brought me a GIRL present!!!!"

"It's not a girl present!" I shrieked in outrage.

"Is too! What am I supposed to do with THIS? GIRLS feed bears with a baby bottle."

"That is incredibly sexist. BOYS CAN TOO." Hoping to avoid an international incident, I hurriedly said, "Open another present."

Well, here it is about 10 days post Christmas. And guess what he carries around 24/7? His baby bear. And when he leaves the house to do anything, guess who is handed the bottle and told to keep up feedings, kiss it, tuck it in, wrap in in blankets and otherwise mother a fake baby bear?

Yeah. More work load for me.

But it seems Santa knew what she was doing.

Santa is one smart cookie. Do you remember Giga Pets? My kids would give them to me to "babysit" while they were playing, and I'd forget about the things, and they'd starve to death. I guess what I'm getting at here is, don't ask me to babysit the bear if you value its life.

CUTE, until you roll over in bed and the bear starts snoring. And yes, it snores, LOL!

My son loves any kind of stuffed animal, but I am trying to get him interested in other things because he has asthma. He also loves real animals but is allergic to cats and dogs. He wants to be a vet when he grows up, but his asthma/allergies are betraying him. I love toys that teach kids how to be responsible.

There are some really cool reptiles . . . tortoises can be very neat (messy), and those lion-headed lizards (forget their real name) are very cool and hang out on you and don't get as big as iguanas.

Something small . . . hamster . . . sugar glider (they are VERY cool)?

I used to want to be a vet when I grew up.

OH . . . and a hedgehog would be a GREAT pet for someone with allergies. We love ours. (Hence a hedgehog is in MAGICKEEPERS.) They play with you and can be affectionate . . . and are so funny to watch. I adore our little hedgie.

I would LOVE to have a sugar glider, but will have to wait 'til we get a bigger house and don't have cats. Someday though...

Maybe the bear is bringing out the nurturing, gentler side of DB.

I had a musician friend with one, and it was the most darling little creature.

I remember touring around Kruger Park in South Africa in a small van and one of the tourists was a chinese man who played with his Tamagouchi pet (a handheld device) the whole tour. He would lift his head for a few seconds to snap a photo of a lion or elephant and then go back to feeding his pet or whatever he did with it. He might as well have stayed at home and looked up some photos of wild animals on the internet.
I'm sure the nurturing aspect of having a 'pet' will be very good for Demon Baby.
